CHARLOTTE, Oct. 19 — The Panthers remained undefeated in the 2053 regular season with a commanding 38-3 win against the 49ers on their home turf. Head coach Francisco Sather's team improved to 7-0 overall and a perfect 3-0 in division play, while the 49ers fell to 2-5 and a 1-3 division record under John Ahrens.
The Panthers opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 40-yard field goal by Benjamin Delarosa to take a 3-0 lead. After a halftime deficit was never threatened, Charlotte dominated both sides of the ball throughout the contest.
Terrell Stevenson, the Panthers' quarterback, completed 20 of 32 passes for 174 yards, throwing three touchdown passes and one interception. Stevenson connected with Mack Helm twice for touchdowns, including a key 4-yard strike that helped build an insurmountable lead. Ismael Daniels also contributed a rushing touchdown.
The Panthers' rushing attack was highly effective, totaling 238 yards and three touchdowns on 41 carries. Donald Nowlin led the ground game with 125 yards and added two receiving touchdowns, cementing his status as a versatile threat. Running back John Blum contributed 81 yards on the ground and five receiving yards.
Defensively, Charlotte's unit pressured the 49ers effectively, registering four sacks and intercepting one pass. The defense limited the 49ers to a mere 99 passing yards and 41 rushing yards, shutting down any scoring opportunities after the first quarter.
The lone score for the 49ers came from a 23-yard field goal by Raymond Sykes late in the first quarter. They were unable to convert their opportunities into touchdowns, ending the game with no offensive touchdowns and only four punts recorded.
The Panthers also excelled in special teams, with Delarosa making the only field goal attempt and completing five extra points successfully. Penalties were minimal for both teams, with Charlotte incurring a single 7-yard penalty and the 49ers committing three for 25 yards.
This dominating victory solidifies the Panthers’ position atop the division standings with a perfect record and further distances the 49ers near the bottom of the standings with their fourth consecutive loss.
Charlotte will look to maintain momentum as they continue their quest for a strong playoff seed in the coming weeks.
