Not sure if this is a bug or not but the receiver fumbled after a 11 yard gain on 3rd and 15 and was recovered by another offensive player for 3 more yards, yet the offense was rewarded the 1st down.

Wouldn't it be 4th and 1? Or is there a rule I'm unaware of where if the offense recovers their own fumble, it's a first down no matter the distance

could be wrong about this .

i thought if the team that fumbles the ball recovers their own fumble they get a new set of downs

That should only happen if the ball changes possession I think. So, if the offense fumbles then the defense recovers and fumbles and the original offense recovers, it's a new set of downs. But if the offense just recovers its own fumble, it shouldn't be a new set of downs unless they earned a first down. That is my understanding at least.

here's the text from the game log.

3-15-SJE 20 (13:41) 16-Sean Lawlor pass complete to 15-Robert Hernandez to SJE 31 for 11 yards. 15-Robert Hernandez FUMBLES (43-Angel Reinoso) recovered by SJE-32-Chad Gasser to SJE 35 for 3 yards. Tackle by 42-William Wright. Pressure by 99-Lawrence Miller. SJE 15-Robert Hernandez was injured on the play.

Looks like the ball advanced a yard or two on its own and then player who picked it up advanced it three more yards for a total of 15 yards, which is what was needed for the first down.

well i asked this on a website that is football related and here is what they said

Yes, it would be 4th and 1, IF the ball was not knocked forward by the receiver who fumbled the ball (AKA, no Holy Roller). Basically, the ball is placed wherever the offense recovers the ball unless it was manipulated forward.
As to whether or not it goes across the first down marker, I believe it would be a first down for the offense, again, if the ball was not manipulated forward by the offense.

if a player fumbles on fourth down he is the only player that can advance the ball. if it's recovered by a teammate the ball is moved back to the spot of the fumble. This prevents players from fumbling forward on purpose.
