Not sure if this is a bug or not:
This type of thing seems to happen very often:
http://cust12.myfootballnow.com/watch/172#39512The pass wasn't intended for a player near the LOS, yet a defensive lineman was called for holding. I would think the lineman would always been "engaged" with the opposing player, making this something that could be called all the time. However, I don't think it should be called at all in this situation.
This happens so often I sometimes find myself hoping my QB would just throw it into the line so I can get a free first down.
I have never noticed this before, but its an interesting play. I will look more, because my QB throws into the line sometimes too I just dont remember any penalties, but without paying attention I could assume any holding calls would be called on guy related to coverage.
I see the game calling the hold on the DT cause the back had a chance to catch the tip. But, no normal coverage penalties apply after a tip. Its like a fumble, maybe the DT pulled down the back as the back leaped to catch a high tip, a penalty by the way of obstructing his path to "live" ball. That would result in a legal call, but defensive holding call, maybe not. Still, a stretch of even my imagination. Its most likely related to coverage penalties still "on" even after a tip. That DT was nowhere near the TE/ slot. Still its all a guess because this is only one play.
