New rules for positions in the roster from the 2024 season:

G / T / 8 / min. 275 lbs / rookie min. 250 lbs
DE / 4 / min. 265 lbs / rookie min. 250 lbs
DT / 3 / min. 290 lbs / rookie min. 260 lbs
MLB / 2 / min. 240 lbs / rookie min. 210 lbs
OLB / 4 / min. 235 lbs / rookie min. 210 lbs
CB / 4 / no weight limit
SS / FS / 3 / min. 200 lbs / rookie no weight limit
K / 1 / no weight limit
P / 1 / no weight limit
STBL / from the other positions / no weight limit
Gunner / from the other positions / no weight limit
STR / from the other positions / min. 237 lbs

That would be 43 permanent positions, the remaining 10 are free choice.

If overrides and / or backups from other position groups are used, these may only be used by heavier players (example: a 276 lbs DE may play cornerback but a 192 lbs CB may not play DE) with the following exceptions:

RB is allowed to play FB
FB is allowed to play TE
C / G / T is allowed to play C / G / T
DE is allowed to play DT
OLB is allowed to play MLB
SS / FS can play OLB / MLB
CB is allowed to play FS / SS



In the 2024 season, everyone should stick to it.
Since the regulation will only be introduced at short notice, no further penalties apply.
There will likely be a few more adjustments in this transition season.


There will be penalties for this from the 2025 season.
Usually a draft pick is taken, but this can lead to exclusion from the league
Depending on the severity of the case or if it is repeated, the penalty will vary.

If the pick is lost, the GM concerned has to pick a very bad player and then cut immediately.
