Atlanta Falcons Offseason Recap.[/uDraftNot the Draft the Falcons were hoping for. With 4 Picks in the first 2 Rounds, the Falcons were hoping for a big impact but ended up with a so-so draft.
1-26 John Bowers - CB
Busted "only" by 2 points, but should look like a bigger bust once he reaches CB weight. could still be useful, but far from the lockdown corner that he looked like, before tc.
2-11 John Browning - DE
Looks quite good. Was probably a reach at this spot, but after a good tc he could have some immediate impact.
2-28 Christopher Jolley - WR
Could have been unreal, but after dropping big in tc i am not sure where he ends up in the depth chart. the sheer speed could be enough to get him on the field, but drops are probably on the menu quite a lot with him.
2-32 Erick Shaw - SS
Another high draft pick spent to freshen up my aging Secondary and another potential bust.
3-8 Norman Ferrier - WR
And another Wideout. Ferrier kept true to his low volatility. Obv. not a true #1 receiver, but for sure good enough to see the field sooner rather then later.
3-20 Paul Powell - C
Powell is the biggest riser in a tough training camp. Powell could play anywhere on the line and keep his own. great addition to the squad. wouldn't be a falcons Draft, with out a asterik which in this case is a lengthy injury the Rookie suffered during the preseason.
5-26 Robert Warner - CB
The third and last DB drafted, which will more then likely end up as the best of the bunch. not like he increased his potential by a lot, but not busting was enough to achieve this.
Trades:Robert Cain was acquiered from the Vikings for the #8 Pick in the 3rd round, which ended up beeing Norman Ferrier, which already gives away that future moves happend aswell.
The Vikings also got a 2025 5th while the Falcons also got Robert Norman, that ended up beeing cut already.
In probably the biggest trade of this offseason the Falcons also got LB Andrew Calvo. Another trade with the Vikings, who got back Kent Wyllie and 2 Round Round draft selections. Wyllie is a oliner, who spent 3 years with the Falcons.
James Weaver left the Falcons and now plays for the New York Giants. The former 5th rounder was a solid depth piece at a positions, where the falcons are super deep right now. alongside Weaver 2 draft picks left the Falcons, who got 3 3rd Rounders back.
Two more trades happened during the draft, that didn't include any players, while on additional draft happend, that included DE Francisco Claderon, who now hunts QBs for the Vikings. a few picks where swapped in this trade, including the 3.8. that i've talked about earlier.
ConclusionThe Falcons failed the get high impact youth into their facilities through the draft. luckily some young talent was aqcuiered prior to the draft.
It's more then clear, that the secondary needs some young talent and the time is ticking, for the falcons, who might already have missed the window.
All other position groups have a good mix of expierence and youth, which should help the progress.
